Look Familiar?

ModCloth's Gary Pepper Dress

Hello girls, Happy Wednesday! Only 2 more days and then another weekend is upon us.:) It's pouring cats and dogs here in New York City today, so I'm really looking for this week to be over soon.;)

I was doing a little web browsing this morning and I discovered a very familiar looking dress over on ModCloth's website. I know that they tend to be "inspired" by a lot of the fabulous fashion from Anthropologie, but this is almost a twin of the Discovered Lace Dress that so many bloggers have fallen in love with.

If the original hadn't fit me so poorly, I'd actually consider giving ModCloth's cheaper version a shot, but it was just not the kind of dress that I love. For those of you who do like the look of this, you may want to consider ModCloth's version to save a few pennies (although the Anthro version is now on sale).

  1. I'm with you on this dress, Chrissy! I want to love it, but it fits terrible on me, too. No surprise since we're similar in shape and the same in size. I totally understand it not being the kind of dress either of us would love.

  2. Wow...it's like a dead ringer! And only $46 too...so thanks for sharing! I'd definitely give this a try if I didn't already have the discovered lace dress.

  3. OMG how are they allowed to offer such a blatant copy?!

  4. Louise, I wondered that one, too, but then again, I think Anthro borrows heavily from vintage clothing, so everyone is always copying someone else, LOL.

  5. Good find! I really wanted the Discovered Lace Dress, so I'm very tempted by this one at the lower price point.

Hope you survived the nasty, rainy weather today. I looked like a drowned rat by the time I got to work this moring!

  6. Kelly, let me know if you get it and how it works out!

Uh, please, this weather was BEYOND disgusting today! So gross and humid, too! Talk about drowned rat...

  8. Hi Chrissy,

Thank you for posting about this on your blog, we appreciate hearing feedback about the merchandise we sell on the site. My name is Elisa and I wanted to present you with some information on behalf of ModCloth.

We do not have our own in-house design or production team, instead our founder and Chief Creative Officer, Susan Gregg Koger, and her buying team travel the globe looking for unique clothing from independent designers at various price points.
We originally sold one of a kind vintage items (and still do offer one true vintage item daily!) and have made it our mission to continue selling looks inspired by vintage pieces. Because we buy from designers we do not have control over look-a-likes. However, we try our best to avoid items we know are similar to other retailers. Had our buyers know this was so similar to the dress at Anthropologie they would have never bought it.

Thank you again for bring this to our attention. If you have any further questions feel free to email me at e.llera@modcloth.com

    With regard,
    Elisa at ModCloth

  9. Hey Elisa, thanks for your post! Please don't mistake my post as criticism! I'm giving my readers a more affordable option, and from what I'm hearing, people are buying it! In fact, I didn't even like the Anthro dress on myself, but I purchased the ModCloth version this morning once I saw a blogger wearing it as a shirt. It looked so cute!

All fashion is inspired by others, but I'm always happy to find a more affordable option for my lean, mean budget!
