Crazy For Coats

Hi, ladies, hope your weekend is off to a great start! I just can't wrap my brain around the fact that Christmas is only seven short days away. I've barely done any of my present shopping, and I'm not normally one to procrastinate like this. As soon as I'm done with this post, I'd better pry myself away from this chair and head out into the holiday madness.:)

So, as far as fashion goes, I've been pretty uninspired by what the stores have been offering lately in terms of fall/winter outfits. Even my beloved, tried-and-true Anthropologie has failed to dazzle me with their usual array of beautiful dresses and amazing skirts. I find myself looking ahead to spring/summer fashion, even though it's only 20-something degrees outside as I type this. Wishful thinking, I suppose, but what happened this season? Do you girls find the stuff that's out there to be boring right now? Maybe it's just me, but I seem to remember buying TONS of stuff around this time of year, and right now, I'm struggling to select much of anything.

One thing that hasn't changed, though, is my love and obsession with winter outerwear. Being that I have another 3 months of extremely cold weather to endure, I find it much easier to deal with if I'm decked out in a gorgeous coat. Since I spend so much time walking around the city streets, even to and from the subway, it's essential that I have a great collection of coats in my arsenal.

I've received some Christmas money and plan to head down to the new Mackage store in Soho to bring home a new beauty. Because I don't earn incredible amounts of money each month, these coats are a real splurge for me, and it's not like I can bring them home in multiples. So, once again, I'm reaching out for some reader opinions, because I plan to get one of these 3 items:

Mackage Leigh Coat in Camel - Love the color and collar, but will it keep me warm this winter?

Mackage Jamie Coat - Gorgeous dove gray color and amazing tailoring/structure. I love the idea of a corset belt to cinch the waistline even more.

Mackage Esther Coat - Fabulous design and I adore this Marine Blue shade.

I can't say anything bad about any of these coats. I only wish I could bring home all three!!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and hit me up with some opinions!:)

  1. I would go with either of the last two. I worry the first wouldn't be warm enough. Then again, at the store, you could see which one you think will be warmest (because they're all cute!). Good luck!

  2. Yikes, I am going to confuse you because I like the first coat the best. I don't like the grey coat but that's just me. It looks shiny and I don't like the collar. And I like the third coat except for the sleeves which look a little bit too crazy. I wish the sleeves just had a little bit of gathering, instead of having the gathering all the way down the sleeves because the rest of the coat is great. I definitely prefer the collar of the first and third coats over the second coat. And I think the first coat has the yummiest color.

  3. It's me again. Just thought of something else. I think the first coat has a more classic design than the other 2 coats. I also prefer the belt of the first coat to the other 2 belts. I think when you're making an investment in a big ticket item, it's better to pick one that is more classic (with some interesting details!) rather than something more trendy because the classic design will stand the test of time. Also forgot to add that I think the color of the first coat will really suit your own coloring (your hair, skin color, and eyes). Ok, that's it!

  4. Thanks so much for your feedback! Anonymous, I tend to agree with you now, because the 2 bottom coats are really trendy pieces and there are aspects of both that I don't love. For that kind of money, I need to love the whole look.

I ADORE the first coat and have lusted after it since October or so. I won't be able to break it out in 20 degree temps, but it's a coat I can wear throughout the fall, early spring, and on some warmer winter days.

  5. Man... that third coat made my heart skip a beat! I love the collar, sleeves and the belt! But this isn't for me, so I'd go with #1 for you. It's totally your style and if you've wanted it for that long, I think it might be the right choice!

  6. I agree with anon. I only have a little reservation. You see the second button of the first coat and where they are at? Right on your girls on both sides???!!!!???. At first, I love that coat over the last two. But then when I look closely, the buttons would make me look like Madonna in the 80's. It is the pointy bras again. But then again, it is depend on your height too. Would you mind blogging about these three coats when you try them on? Our opinions would be more concrete when these coats are on you rather than on the model. Thanks.

  7. Aimee, I do love coat #3, but like someone else mentioned, the sleeves just have too many ruffles going on. If the sleeves were just straight, I'd like it much more. Love the color and belt, though.

Cindy, LOL about the buttons. I'm 5'5" tall, so I don't think the fit will be exactly as shown on the model. In fact, I think it's mostly the angle of this particular shot, or else the model is wearing a size too small for her bustline. I've seen several other product shots of this coat and never noticed a cone-like effect up top before this.

I would be happy to do some fitting room reviews of these coats!

  8. I love that third one, but see what you're saying about too many ruffles. The color is to die for though!

Also, I'm feeling the same as you about this season. Last year I remember having to force myself not to buy a ton of stuff at both J Crew and Anthro, and this year, neither one is really putting out any must-haves for me. I've picked up a sale item here or there at Anthro in the past few weeks, but with the exception of the Slithering Frills pumps (which I happily paid full price for after I saw they'd sold out of my size on-line), nothing's really tempted me at all at full price.

  10. The first coat went on sale at Nordstrom for half the price and it is gone in a blink.... I am waiting for it to go on sale elsewhere. Love package coat. The long ones is a bit long for me as I am petite though.

  12. Love the collars on these coats! Kind of remind me of my fave brand Soia & Kyo ;) Did you end up getting that coat back in the Fall?

  14. Laura, I did not end up with that coat, but I am going to end up with one of these.;)

Sarah, yeah, I do love the second coat, particularly after seeing it on the runway video. I think the color is beautiful.
